About Zakat
What is Zakat, and when is it due?
Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam — an obligatory act of worship, not a voluntary donation. Here's what determines whether it's due from you, and when.
What is Zakat?
Zakat is a compulsory act of charity, due once two conditions are both met: your wealth reaches the Nisab threshold, and one full lunar year has passed while it stayed above that threshold.
It isn't optional generosity — it's a right the poor and needy have over a portion of your wealth.
Zakat falls due one lunar (Hijri) year after your wealth first reached Nisab — or on the same date you paid it last year.
Many people choose to pay during Ramadan for its added reward, but any consistent date works — what matters is staying consistent year to year.
When is it due?
What is Nisab?
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth you must hold before Zakat becomes obligatory. It's the exemption line — below it, no Zakat is due; at or above it, 2.5% of your net wealth is owed.

How it works
Using the Zakat Calculator
Follow these steps to get an accurate figure in under two minutes.
Gather a snapshot of your wealth
Have a rough figure ready for anything you've owned continuously over the past lunar year — gold, cash, savings, money owed to you, and any business assets.
Enter your Cash assets
Fill in the value of gold you own, cash in hand and in banks, savings, money you've loaned out, and any business investments. Leave a field at 0 if it doesn't apply to you.
Add Business Assets, if any
If you run a business, enter the current resale value of your stock or inventory — this is Zakatable too.
Deduct your Liabilities
Enter debts due for immediate repayment, unpaid employee salaries, and other imminent outgoings like tax or rent. These are subtracted from your total before Zakat is calculated.
Check the Nisab ring
The circular progress ring fills as your net wealth approaches the current Nisab value. Once it reaches 100%, you've met the threshold and Zakat is due.
Read your result
Your Total Assets and final Zakat Owed appear at the bottom automatically, and update live as you type — at 2.5% of your net wealth once Nisab is met.
Donate or start over
Tap Donate This Zakat to pay the amount shown, or Reset to clear all fields and recalculate.
Note: the Nisab value moves with the daily gold price, so the figure shown is only accurate as of when it was last updated. If it's been a while since the last update, check with our team on the hotline above before finalising your payment.
